Depression:Easy does it

Feeling low, depressed, unmotivated and disinterested in life is actually our innate bodily intelligence telling us that something is not right, that there is a disequilibrium in our lives.

Even though these emotions are very difficult to be with, what is required in these times is actually to be with these unpleasant feelings and to welcome them as a friend who is feeling low and needs someone to talk to. 

Isolation may feel safe, but it makes you feel more depressed

I can hear you say, that's all good and well, however the pain is too much to bear and I don't want to feel so bad. I hear you, and it is very important to acknowledge your feelings and how hard it is for you. This is actually the first step. By acknowledging and reflecting on how difficult things are, you are acting as a much needed friend to yourself. 

Depression means that simple every day tasks take a lot of energy. So it is important to start very small and acknowledge that you have made a step towards feeling better. 

Changing the environment can be helpful. It could be getting out of bed, and going into the kitchen to make yourself a nice soothing cup of tea, or opening the window to get some fresh air. It may also be useful to carry a little notebook or have it beside your bed, where you have written down things you can do to help lift the cloud of depression when it comes over you. 

Remember, depression can be very unkind to you, and therefore quite debilitating in that you do not want to do anything. When you are feeling like this, be gentle and kind to yourself, and don't put any pressure on yourself.
